Instrument Cables

You've just dropped 2k on a new Guitar or Bass and your running through instrument cables that cost the same as a McDonald's meal. Time to upgrade to get the full tonal value out of your investment, look no further for the very best guitar or bass cables.

Patch Cables

Looking to keep the best tone running through your pedalboard? Question...You've forked out on some of the best pedals on the marketing and you're connecting them with patch cables that cost less than a beer. Cheap is cheap.

Why are our cables different?

Since Leo Fender popped a couple of pickups in the broadcaster (original telecaster) in the 50’s and passive pickups have always outputted a ‘High Z’ signal or high impedance. This signal gets affected/lost with long cable lengths adding capacitance which isn’t helped with the hidden cabling among your guitar or bass pedalboard this starts to cause treble loss and is commonly know as ‘tone suck’.

Are cables bring together the best components out there and utilising a separate ground conductor that is partly floated or unbalanced at the source end which reduces interference and microphonics.

This is why our cables keep the richest of fat mids and bottom with the sweetest of present at the top.

WIRED FOR TONE

DR Cables are directional cables which are marked at each jack with  ‘Amp’ or ‘Guitar’. In simple, we use two centre conductors one of which is the hot/tip of the 1/4 jack plug then the other conductor with the cables outer coax as the shield which is only connect at the amp end. What this does is any unwanted noise doesn’t travel back to the instrument and mix with the signal, instead it runs out through to the ground of the amp.

‘Amp’ side is marked green for GO!

‘Guitar’ side is marked white

Standard method

Most low to high priced instrument cables are manufacture with this same method. They use a coaxial style cable (similar to what you would find in TV aerial cable) with a woven concentric copper as the ground/shield then a single centre conductor as the tip/hot.

Superior tone method

DR Cables wire ours a little differently... We have a separate 20 stranded conductors for both the ground and for the tip/hot. Further to this, we connect the separate woven coaxial shield (floated) at the amp end only, this protects your tone giving you our unique flavour.

Without the influence of John Mayer (#gayformayer), we wouldn’t have gone down the tonal rabbit hole as we have. It’s the search for the very best fuller sound possible that direction cables can offer, because of the marked difference this wouldn’t have even been on the radar – but glad it did.

Along with John, there is a long list of guitar and bass gods using them like Jimmy Page, Sir Paul McCartney…… If you’ve ever thought man Strats sound so thin it’s time to cables up.
